Recent graduates in Nigeria have been offered a six-month traineeship program by the EU delegation in Nigeria. This is to enable them to delve into the world of diplomatic missions. The major objectives of the traineeship program are to avail recent graduates who may have interests in international relations to experience opportunities to tackle global challenges, bridging culture gaps as well as ensure they can make a difference on the world stage.

The program would expose participants to learn about diplomatic missions where they will learn about the specific activities and priorities of the EU Delegation to see how the EU promotes cooperation, promotes shared values as well as address critical issues that face both their country Nigeria as well as the international communities. In the end, the participants are expected to acquire valuable knowledge on the complex dynamics of international relations which would include negotiations, diplomacy, and global governance.

This program which would commence in mid-June 2024 would offer a traineeship of up to six months within the Regional Cooperation & Trade Sections of the EU Delegation to Nigeria. The trained individuals will split their time between the Regional Cooperation Section (OPS4) and the Trade & Economics Section (T&E) as the program will provide recent graduates with an invaluable opportunity to gain experience in the exciting world of diplomacy and make a significant impact on global affairs.
Trainees in the Regional Cooperation section will learn how to manage regional programs and the relationship with ECOWAS, spanning sectors such as peace & security, transport, energy, trade, maritime security, blue economy, and agriculture. The geographical scope includes the broader West Africa region, all ECOWAS member states, and the Gulf of Guinea.
Similarly, trainees in the Trade & Economics section will learn how to be responsible for monitoring relations with Nigeria in trade and economic sectors, including analysis and reporting on developments within Nigeria and occasionally in the West African region.
The Programme would offer a traineeship of up to six months within the Regional Cooperation & Trade Sections of the EU Delegation to Nigeria.

- If selected, what is expected of me as a trainee?
Selected applicants would be tasked with the following:
• Conduct research and analysis on key trade and economic developments between EU and Nigeria;
• Review regional trends, as well as programmes and activities undertaken by the international community;
• Contribute to the programming, identification and appraisal of programmes and projects in close cooperation with the beneficiary institutions in ‘ECOWAS’ region;
• Draft reports on regional events and contribute to sector analysis;
• Contribute in the follow-up of the implementation of projects and the performance of project managers and partners;
• Attend, and draft reports of, public events and meetings with ECOWAS and various implementing partners;
• Media monitoring of developments in Nigeria-EU trade and economic developments;
• Monitoring progress of legislative changes in the area of trade and investment (analysis of the new draft laws);
• Follow positive developments of EU companies operating in Nigeria. - What are the requirements?
To your application to be accepted, the applicant must meet the following requirements.
• Be graduate with at least a Bachelor Diploma (or equivalent)
• Have a maximum one year of professional experience.
• Must not have previous experience of more than six weeks in the EU Institutions - How to go about the application process.

The benefits from the trainee program can not be overemphasized. Outside the fact that it will serve you an opportunity to meet with, network and learn with people from diverse backgrounds, the selected candidate will also be awarded a monthly grant which would cover for their living expenses and all cost that may be accrued from traveling, visa application, insurance and accommodation.
Applicants who are not eligible do not need to apply for the program as their applications will not be considered.
